Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSc) is a unique hub of excellence in biological
research in India. The creation of the Bangalore Life Science Cluster aims at
developing best practices for inter-institutional collaborations in India. Nucleated
by the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), a premier centre for cutting
edge biological research and training in India, the Bangalore Life Science Cluster
includes two other research institutions in Bangalore – inStem and CCAMP . Each
of these additional entities has its own scientific mandate, but benefits from and
contributes to the rich environment in basic biology already offered by NCBS. It is
envisioned that these synergistic associations at the Cluster will have a far greater
impact on life sciences research than the sum of individual contributions from
each institution.
We realise that success requires research problems to be approached from a
variety of directions, with different points and sources of inspiration. Our campus
welcomes researchers with various backgrounds in the natural sciences,
mathematics, physics, computer sciences, and others. We encourage
collaboration at every level, and our artist in residence program is just one way we
endeavor to align ourselves with varying expressions of science. The program
brings on board an artist who works closely with PLs and their labs to translate the
science into art.
This exhibition is an outcome of one such collaboration with artist, Dhara
Mehrotra. NCBS is proud to be part of ‘Through Clusters and Networks’ and to host
the showing on our campus.
